A Short Guide for Healthy Parenting

A Short Guide for Healthy Parenting

Parenting is one of the most significant and sometimes underrated aspect of a human life. Many of us feel the challenge of supporting the children to be the successful version of themselves. When all of us want our children to be raised as a ‘happy and healthy child’, we are not sure how to do it. We want our children to be physically healthy; But we do not see their Mental Health needs and challenges due to various reasons like unawareness and societal stigma.

Children do experience varied emotions from their experiences, which is significant in their healthy upbringing. These experiences help the children to make their life a successful one; because he or she could easily come in terms with life and realize that, sweet and sour is equally proportionate in it. Mental health of the child is as important as physical health, because it determines how a child behaves and acts throughout the journey of their life. Mental fitness includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It helps establish how we cope with stress and adversity, handle success and failure, connect to others, and make choices. Right from childhood through adolescence and throughout adulthood, mental health is crucial.
There are multiple ways by which we can help our kids into becoming mentally healthy individuals:

  1. Help the children to be themselves – The most repeated advice in the modern times, nevertheless a relevant one. It is imperative to allow the children to be their best version. They need to be allowed and encouraged to express themselves, without being pushy. Let them enjoy their life
  2. Be a role model – Parents are the best role models a child could ever have. Make sure that you are one. Please introspect yourself that how do you deal with win or loss in your life, how do you behave or respond to your child’s achievement and failures?
  3. Everyone is special – Make your child realize every human being in this world is unique and special in their own way. Avoid comparing your child with other children, just steer away from it.
  4. Help them to be inspired – Teach your child to appreciate the goodness in others. Talk with them to know their perception about people and their surroundings. Help them to be inspired.
  5. Encourage physical activity – It is important to stay both physically and mentally fit to be healthy. Encourage your child to indulge in physical activities, if possible, join them
  6. Pursuing hobbies – A hobby is of vital importance to make a person mentally and emotionally strong. Hobbies are not just a source of happiness, but also an outlet to confront absurd feelings and emotions. Support your child to find and develop their passion
  7.  Make them practice Self-awareness and Self-love – Self-awareness and self-love are two important aspects which every parent should encourage their children to practice. Children should be able to release there are many things they cannot change and should accept as it is like. Let them realize forgiving give them more peace than the forgiven, while it is imperative to stand up for what is right
  8. Respect their individuality – Even though, parents consider children as their own extension, it is important to accept that they are individuals with a separate character and mindset. We can act as their facilitator and guide, but they should be the one who control their life. It is always important to acknowledge a child’s individuality for a healthy parent – child relationship.
